Modeling begins with the identification of the likely mechanisms that explain the behavior of a system. To study them, these mechanisms are described through mathematical equations that allow the prediction of possible behaviors. Such predictions can then be empirically tested, either with historical data or with experimental situations designed to verify whether the system behaves as expected.
